Senator Clinton just wrapped up her speech at the Democratic National Convention, and I’m left with my head spinning and marks all over my tv screen where I’ve been throwing anything I can get my hands on at it.
It’s not necessarily Hillary herself that makes me want to shoot blood out of my eyes, it’s the whole school of thought she, and so many other prominent Democrats are in.
1) healthcare…
They say “we are fighting so hard to get universal healthcare”. WHAT? I don’t want the healthcare the government chooses for me. I’ll choose my own insurance, thank you very much! If I can’t afford insurance – that’s ok. If I’m making less than 42k/year, the state I live in (as well as many others) offers FREE insurance for my kids!
2) oil…
They are saying let’s keep our oil supply flowing like it is, and focus everything new on alternative energy. I don’t want to spend 3.65/gallon until I can afford a car that runs on rabbit poop and dandelions. I want sub-$2 gas within the next 4 years or whoever is president in 2008 will be a former president in 2012 along with the hundreds of jobless members of capital hill! Has it occurred to anybody that the reason our oil might be so expensive is not because oil costs more? Has anybody wondered what the collateral is for every new dollar that’s printed when a new spending bill is signed into law? Our dollar is weaker than what the “officials” are saying. The un-named guys in a secret room who set the oil prices are seeing that! So here’s my suggestion (not that a voter in this country has any say anyway): Don’t spend any more new money on anything UNTIL the US has real money in the bank. Get money in the bank, by drilling for oil in Anwar, Gull Island, and places offshore that’s been placed off-limits by these crooks who are holding a gun to Americans’ heads to force us into alternative fuels. Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for alternative energy, but what am I supposed to do with my two vehicles that are PAID FOR that run on petroleum? I am not going into debt to buy a new car that runs on love.
3) government give-aways…
Both sides of the aisle have been bad about this. Did anybody notice Oil go to record highs not too long after this economic stimulus was passed? Here’s the insanity: The government is in debt, oil is getting more expensive because the government is borrowing against it (really!) to print more money for everything they want, so let’s just print off more money to give to the citizens to blow! So we just got checks ranging from $300 to $2100 each to spend, driving the nation almost $200billion more in debt!
4) taxes… The Democrats have been screaming ever since the Bush tax-cuts about how it benefited the rich and left the poor and middle class out in the cold. I consider myself on the lower end of middle class. I PAY NO TAXES! In fact, even though I don’t pay anything, I STILL get anywhere from $1000 – $3000 a year of refunds! How much more of a tax cut does someone need when they get paid after a tax cut? Who is overpaying if I get a check and didn’t pay in this year? Do the Democrats think they are Robin Hood and can steal from the rich to give it to the poor under the guise of a higher “tax bracket”? It ticks me off that my boss can’t invest that extra 10-20% into the company I work for in order to turn a better profit, because at my company profit=raises & bonuses! It’s not the Government’s job to take care of the poor. It’s my job, it’s your job, it’s everyone’s job to help the widows and orphans and the legitimately handicapped. Let ME discern whether the guy down the road is freeloading or not. Obviously the government can’t!
The best way (that I see, anyway) to fix the tax system and get the country’s income side of the budget right would be to keep the taxes the way they are, EXCEPT for the refunds to people who didn’t pay anything in. A refund is only a refund when you paid. It should never exceed what was paid in. The government would see BILLIONS come back into the budget immediately that can start going onto the national debt.
5) global warming…
belongs with Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, The earth is flat, etc
6) the war…
I totally agree, Iraq could have been handled SO much better than it was. Between the UN not having the testicular fortitude to follow through with their threats, and our lack of creativity in the situation – the whole thing couldn’t have gone much worse (unless of course we found out the hard way Iraq had WMD’s). Obviously the troop surge has made a huge improvement over there. The Iraqi government should be given a deadline to have their forces ready to keep the peace, then we should hold to that deadline for an occupational pullout. However I believe a military base of our own in Iraq would keep a platform of our own there to help this new ally if need be.
7) civil liberties…
I’m leaving myself open for flaming here, but homosexuality is not a civil rights issue. I believe that the African-American community should be enraged by those who would compare the plot to force America to accept sexual perversion as normal to the fight to treat people of all colors the same. The African Americans who have embraced the Democrat platform need to wake up to the fact that they are being decieved for a vote. Skin color is NOT the same as sexual perversion, yet the liberal agenda is saying they are the same.
I could probably go on and on about the thougths that run through my head when I hear politicians from both sides of the aisle speak. I believe it IS time for change. However there is not a candidate on the ballot this year that will bring the change that is needed. When will America wake up and decide it’s time to clean house in Washington? These people are to work AMERICANS, not for their career. Although we have people working in the positions of representatives, for the most part, we do have taxation without representation.
